The Evo Tournament was created by Dr. Lowery as method of gathering and obtaining power from brawling Bakugan and forcing [[Mecha Chamelia]], a synthetic Bakugan, to evolve.
The first Evo Tournament started as a small stand with a few participants, as a way of testing the evolution machine. However, Katie was not accepted by the other participants, and after a brawler expressed that the machine made them and their Bakugan feel disorientated, which it caused the rest of the brawlers to ridicule Katie. After seeing Katie distraught, Mecha Chamelia increased the affects of the machine, causing the brawlers and Bakugan that were bullying Katie to lose their memories. Mecha Chamelia refined the machine in order to make its effects more gradual, and the Evo Tournament grew and became more popular.
By the time [[Dan Kuso]] and [[Runo Misaki]] became aware of the tournament, it had become a fancy affair, featuring exotic locations and cruise ships and being held on a private island in a large mansion. Dan and Runo brawled through the tournament, while their friends [[Marucho Marukura]], [[Shun Kazami]], and [[Julie Makimoto]], snuck onto the island and encountered Mecha Chamelia and the machine. Their Bakugan were affected by the machine and lost their memory. Eventually the truth of the tournament was revealed to its contestants, and Dan and Runo stalled a brawl with Katie and Mecha Chamelia in order to allow Marucho time to reverse the machine's effects. With the machine reversed, the brawlers and Bakugan regained their memories, and Katie's father, having realized what had happened, shut down the tournament forever.
