Intermission Screen

The first inrermission screen of Bakugan Battle Brawlers

An Intermission Screen (Japanese version: Eyecatch (アイキャッチ, aikyatchi?) is a scene, illustration, or clip that is shown before and after a commercial break. Usually, they are two to six seconds in length, both before and after the break. It is usually accompanied by music, usually a signature or theme music of an animated series. Intermission Screens always shown in the climax of the episode, leading into speculation during the break.

In this case in Bakugan Battle Brawlers and its seasons (New Vestroia, Gundalian Invaders, and Mechtanium Surge), Intermission Screens are composed of a background containing the attribute wheel (same as the title card, depending on the season), the Bakugan and his battler which is usually related to the episode's plot, its attribute (which glows the background behind him), and the series' logo, accompanied by theme music. Sometimes, the Bakugan's true form was shown instead of his brawler, or the Bakugan, its true form and its brawler altogether. Most of these Intermission Screens have a character on the screen and play a quip from the character that is usually related to the episode's plot, but they can also be silent.

Since the series are made in Japan, the eye-catches are produced and supplied by the production company and considered as part of the program itself. The Japanese logo of the series are always shown in Japan, but removed when aired in international markets, especially in Asian countries. When edited for English audiences, a different, localized logo is added in these Intermission Screens (as shown above).

Trivia

  • The first season is the only one in which its Intermission Screen background does not match its equivalent title card.
