Taste of Defeat is the fifth episode of Bakugan Battle Brawlers: New Vestroia. It aired on June 6, 2009.

Plot[edit]

With the Vexos losing one-by-one, Gus Grav calls them all together to explain that the Bakugan Battle Brawlers Resistance has to be defeated. He decides to take matters in his own hands and personally confront the Resistance to restore the Vexos' pride.

Meanwhile, the Resistance makes a stop en route to Alpha City, and Mira Fermin gives Dan Kuso the Bakugan Trap Scorpion to help him in his battles. She explains that little is known about Bakugan Traps aside from the fact that they are incapable of communicating, or at least unwilling to. Excited, Dan took off to get in some training with Scorpion. Just then, Gus shows up (though he does not reveal his identity) to mess with Dan's head, asking what he would gain from saving the Bakugan, leaving Dan with the question of who he was.

Gus later returns, asking Dan what the answer is to his earlier question, and then reveals himself as the number two brawler of the Vexos. Feeling confident, Dan decides to take him on, but is soon overwhelmed with the power of Gus' Subterra Premo Vulcan and loses. To everyone’s surprise, he takes the loss well and excitedly plans to train for a rematch.
