Generation 1[edit]
Pyrus, Nova (ノヴァ, Novu~a?) in the Japanese version, is the Attribute of Fire found on Bakugan. It is found in both the original attribute system and the new system.
Pyrus can be found at the inner core of the universe and is inhabited by Bakugan who draw their strength from the blazing heat that surrounds them. It is within these deep recesses of molten rock that their intensity is forged. Never one to waste even a second, the Pyrus blitz their enemies from every angle like a raging firestorm.
Bakugan Battle Brawlers[edit]
The Legendary Soldier of Pyrus was Apollonir before he transferred his Attribute Energy to Drago.
Gameplay[edit]
For Pyrus Bakugan, the main point of them is to simply overpower through sheer force and shutting down ways your opponent can fight back like gate card bonuses or Ability Cards. Due to this, nullifying cards like Rikimaro's Surprise or Stand Off are very useful to stop your opponent from fighting back with ability cards or Gate effects and Stand Off also gives a great Pyrus Bonus.

- Side Relations: Ventus and Subterra

Trivia[edit]
- The original Pyrus symbol was derived from the Han for the Japanese character for fire, 火 (hi?).
- In the English dub, Diablo Preyas once says he is "part Nova," which is the Japanese name for Pyrus.
- The video game-exclusive Omega Leonidas' Gate Card is strongest in Pyrus and Aquos.
Etymology[edit]
The English name, Pyrus, comes from the Ancient Greek πῦρ. The Japanese name, Nova, stems from the English term nova, which is an astrological event that creates a bright explosion.
Generation 2[edit]
Pyrus (パイラス, Pairasu?) is one of the six elemental Factions that Bakugan can belong to. It is the Faction of fire. The region on Vestroia where Pyrus Bakugan reside is known as Pyrule.
Information[edit]
Albeit sporting a newly redesigned Faction symbol, Pyrus remains relatively unchanged from the legacy Pyrus featured in the original Bakugan Battle Brawlers series. It is stylized as the Faction of fire and aggression, reflected in both the anime and TCG gameplay, and Bakugan belonging to the group strike either relentlessly or with an arsenal of flame based attacks.
Color Scheme and Design[edit]
Loyal to their affinity for heat and fire, Pyrus Bakugan in ball form are primarily red in coloration, with orange secondary highlights. Similar to Darkus, their tertiary color is lime green. In their significantly larger, monster forms, Bakugan of the Pyrus Faction can contain areas of yellow, as well as occasional white portions and black details under their armor that is almost universally shared with other Battle Planet Bakugan. Black is also represented as a quaternary color on Pyrus Bakugan in sphere form beginning from the Geogan Rising set of products.
In Evolutions the color scheme of all factions were completely changed. Pyrus Bakugan during this set of products were a brighter warmer red with with orange and dark red as secondary highlights and yellow as an accent color.
The Pyrus Faction symbol has been redesigned, and is printed on the top left of all Pyrus Character Cards and left of the type box on all other Pyrus Ability Cards, starting from the Armored Alliance card expansions onwards all Pyrus Bakugan have the faction Symbol Printed on them as well, in addition to appearing as a watermark in the text box on cards. It appears as an angular stylized flame that resembles a helix or an elaborate blade.
Anime[edit]
Pyrus is used by one of the main protagonists of the Battle Planet, Armored Alliance, and Geogan Rising anime, Dan Kouzo. Pyrus is not exclusively used as a Faction of the protagonists, as there are antagonists that utilize it as well, such as Duran Dane and McQ.
Physical Game[edit]
Gameplay[edit]
- For a list of all cards in the Pyrus Faction, see Category:Pyrus Cards.
As the most aggressive Faction in the Bakugan reboot, Pyrus is geared towards the offensive and seeks to overwhelm the opponent with damage. As such, it has an unrivaled amount of action cards that can increase their Damage Rating. Pyrus Bakugan typically have lower B-Power and higher attack on average, but this can be supplemented with cards that allow the Victor to be decided by damage rather than B-Power, such as Might of Cyndeous or Mac. Pyrus' exclusive Tag-Word Ability is Fury, which allows members to receive additional bonuses if the effect resolves when the player has no cards in their hand. Unique to Pyrus, their combat keyword is DoubleStrike, which allows them to inflict double damage. Pyrus is the only Faction that doesn't share their strike keyword with another Faction, although occasionally Aurelus Bakugan utilize it as well.
Other staple mechanics of the Pyrus Faction include the ability to deal instant damage without winning a brawl, temporary Energy generation, and Drawing cards at the expense of discarding the same amount. Quickfire, Song of Fire, and Sifting Ashes are all examples of cards that capitalize on these effects. Pyrus is also a natural counter to the strategies of Ventus and Haos, and is the primary faction with access to cards that destroy energy and negate the effects of BakuCores, respectively. Pyrus is capable of directly uncharging or preventing enemy energy cards from recharging at the end of a turn utilizing cards such as Energy Drain, further obstructing common Ventus tactics. Some specific techniques that are exclusive to Pyrus are the ability to draw a card from the top of the player's deck and play it for free if it isn't a Flip Card, and forcing all players to discard their hand and draw an equal amount of cards from their deck, such as with Pyrusauna or Inferno Cannon.
Pyrus is primarily paired with Haos and Darkus on Dual Faction Cards and Faction exclusive BakuCore bonuses; conversely, Pyrus Flip Cards usually defend against damage from Aquos and Ventus. These paired Factions share exclusive Tag-Word Abilities: Empower for Pyrus and Haos, and Rapid Fire for Pyrus and Darkus. Empower provides bonuses if an additional three Energy is paid while playing a card with the effect, whereas Rapid Fire allows the player to play a second Rapid Fire card for free if they've already used one in a turn.
As of the Secrets of the Geogan card expansion, Pyrus is also paired with Aquos and Ventus, with two new keywords to coincide with them: Inspire for Pyrus and Aquos, and Stoke for Pyrus and Ventus. Inspire rewards players with bonuses if they play a card with it if they've drawn more than one card in a turn, whereas Stoke allows them to copy a Stoke ability's effect for the cost of two Energy.

Trivia[edit]
- Pyrus' functionality in the reboot TCG shares many parallels with Red mana in Magic: The Gathering. In addition to an identical color motif, both have aggressive play styles, and both favor mechanics involving instant damage, temporary resource generation, and "looting" - the act of drawing and discarding cards.
- Pyrus Bakugan in their ball forms are frequently depicted as sporting yellow highlights as their secondary color in box artwork and promotional material, contrary to them actually being orange.
Etymology[edit]
Like its legacy predecessor, Pyrus is derived from πῦρ, the Ancient Greek word for fire. Modern iterations of the word with the same origins include pyro and pyre.
