A Banned Card is a card, or sets of cards, that were not usable in competitive brawling formats. While there were not any strictly banned cards in North American formats (i.e. Baku-Con and the Bakugan Battle League), the Japanese official brawling scene had some restrictions, such as restricting certain Gate Cards, and Ability Card combinations.[1]

Generation 1[edit]

North America[edit]

There were no major restrictions in the North American scene. The only restriction was during the 2010 Baku-Con, where HSP Cards were limited to only cards with positive Attribute bonuses.

Japan[edit]

For the Japanese official Bakugan Authorized Championship brawling events, there were some restrictions on cards that could be used in play.

Overseas cards, or non-Japanese cards, were banned from official play.[2]

Gate Cards[edit]

The following Gate Cards are banned from being used at Sega events:

Both of these cards have the effect "Lowest G-Power wins".

Ability Card combinations[edit]

Brawlers may not have any combination of two or more of the following Red Ability Cards in their deck at Sega events:

Brawlers may not have any of the following Green Ability Cards in their deck at Sega events:

All of the listed Green Ability Cards feature Enslavement or other effects that prevent the opponent from rolling their Bakugan until a specific condition is met.

Fixing card text[edit]

To be used at Sega events, the card Flare Trinity would have to have its text slightly altered.

The text is changed from:

Your Bakugan gains G-Power based on its Attribute. If 3 of your Bakugan are Flare Dragaon, Destroy Munikis, and Van Falco, your Bakugan additionally gains 100 G-Power.

to

Your Bakugan gains G-Power based on its Attribute. If 3 of your Bakugan are Flare Dragaon, Kilan Leoness, and Gran Panzer, your Bakugan additionally gains 100 G-Power.

Generation 2[edit]

North America[edit]

In the Bakugan Trading Card Game there are two different card releases, a Spin Master version and a Takara Tomy version. Due to differences in certain Bakugan stats and card bonuses, for official Spin Master matches only Spin Master cards are allowed and the Takara Tomy versions are banned. The exception to this were cards from the Bakugan Battle Pack.

Limited Edition Kits[edit]

There were promotional events during the run of Battle Planet that featured special Limited Edition Pyrus Dragonoid and Pyrus Dragonoid Ultra foil Character Cards with higher B-Power stats than the original release. These cards were ruled to be banned from official play, as they were superior to their standard counterparts and were also a product unavailable to the general public.
