Shun Kazami (風見 駿, Kazami Shun?) is one of the main protagonists of the anime series Bakugan Battle Brawlers and one of the few original Battle Brawlers who remains a main character throughout its sequels, New Vestroia, Gundalian Invaders, and Mechtanium Surge.
He is one of the inventors of Bakugan brawling, and was originally the best brawler worldwide before Masquerade and his minions took over the rankings and he dropped to sixth place. Due to various personal circumstances, he temporarily resigned from brawling until he was convinced to join the Battle Brawlers as their Ventus brawler.
Shun makes appearances in most of the Battle Brawlers video game installments, appearing in Bakugan Battle Brawlers, Bakugan: Defenders of the Core, Bakugan: Rise of the Resistance, and Bakugan Dimensions.
Contents
Appearance[edit]
Shun's outfit in Battle Brawlers was a black shirt, covered with a thin purple triangular-backed ending. He had black pants with a brown zipper like designs on around them. His black hair consists of two layers. The first layer of hair is the front all one his forehead, and his second layer is the straight hair tied up with a ponytail. His light brown eyes are in an upset mood.
In New Vestroia, Shun's outfit consists of a fully black sweater-like turtleneck, gloves that reach to his elbows, black Vestal jeans that he stole along with the rest of the outfit from when he infiltrated the Vestals after he saved Ingram. He has black rubber boots that almost goes to his knees. He later wears a long green vest up to his knees with a belt on the side when its open. When he is on Earth he wears black pants with a black shirt with green markings. Shun's hair is almost the same only the difference is that he cut off his ponytail and his hair is now up to his neck.
In Gundalian Invaders, he wears a green ninja style shirt with purple and gold trimming, black pants, black wrist bands and purple and green boots.
In first arc of Mechtanium Surge, Shun sports a light green shirt under a white shirt with dark green trimming, a dark green choker, tan colored pants and light brown boots. His hair is starting to grow more. In the second arc, he wears a green jacket and a green shirt with white pants along with black shoes.
Personality[edit]
Shun is one of the calmest Brawlers in the series. He rarely gets flustered or annoyed and even when he is annoyed; he maintains a cool voice (even though he voices his displeasure). Shun is a lone wolf and always focuses in battles. However, his stamina does have its limits; shown by how he tires after a large amount of constant battling. He has distaste for BakuNano as he sees them as dangerous for inexperienced Brawlers to have but gradually uses his own when needed. Shun has good instincts as he is able to discern a person's actions by their personality.
Bakugan[edit]
In battle, Shun combines his knowledge of ninja skills and his Bakugan's natural abilities to outwit an opponent and win.
Bakugan Battle Brawlers[edit]
Unlike most of the Brawlers, he does not have a large collection of Ventus Bakugan and only has four Bakugan shown, while most of the other Brawlers have ten or more.
- Ventus Skyress → Storm Skyress (Partner Bakugan)
- Ventus Monarus
- Ventus Ravenoid
- Ventus Falconeer
Bakugan Battle Brawlers: New Vestroia[edit]
With Skyress turned into one of Hydron's statues, Shun forms a partnership with Ingram. After Skyress is freed, she decides to remain in New Vestroia and allows Ingram to remain as Shun's Partner Bakugan.
- Ventus Ingram → Master Ingram (Partner Bakugan)
- Ventus Hawktor (Used in last episode to test out Bakugan Interspace)
- Ventus Hylash (Bakugan Trap)
- Ventus Shadow Wing (Master Ingram's Ability Bakugan)
- Ventus Storm Skyress
- Haos Hammersaur (Taken from Vanessa in episode 8)
Bakugan: Gundalian Invaders[edit]
It is unknown what happens to Ingram during the events of this season, but it is possible that he, like Skyress, chose to return to New Vestroia. In his place, Hawktor—introduced in the final episode of the previous season when the brawlers tested Bakugan Interspace—becomes Shun's new Partner Bakugan.
- Ventus Hawktor (Partner Bakugan)
- Silver Swayther (Battle Gear, left on Neathia.)
- Pyrus Lumino Dragonoid (Swapped with Dan temporarily in episode 16, returned in episode 17)
Bakugan: Mechtanium Surge[edit]
In Mechtanium Surge, Shun is partnered with Ventus Taylean in arc 1, and with Jaakor in arc 2.
- Arc 1
- Ventus Taylean (Partner Bakugan, left for New Vestroia prior to Evil Arrival)
- Ventus/Pyrus Mutant Taylean (BakuMutant)
- Gold Hammermor (BakuNano) (Taylean's BakuNano, received from Rafe)
- Ventus Silent Strike (Taylean's Mechtogan)
- Ventus Faser Titan (Taylean's Mechtogan Titan)
- Ventus Zoompha (First Mobile Assault)
- Ventus Blasterate (Battle Suit, given by Spectra)
- Arc 2
- Ventus Jaakor (Partner Bakugan, obtained prior to Evil Arrival)
- Ventus Fortatron (Battle Suit, given by Mira)
- Darkus Skytruss (Partner Bakugan) (Obtained by whistling)
- Darkus Orbeum (Partner Bakugan) (Obtained by whistling)
- Ventus/Darkus Magmafury (Baku Sky Raider Combination of Jaakor, Skytruss, and Orbeum)
- Ventus Thorak (Second Mechtogan) (Jaakor's Mechtogan)
- Ventus/Aquos Duomechtra (Mechtogan Combination, shared with Marucho)
Bakugan Battle Brawlers (Video Game)[edit]
- Ventus Gargonoid
- Ventus Siege
- Ventus Robotallion
- Ventus Fear Ripper
- Ventus Griffon
- Ventus Laserman

Brawling Record[edit]
Shun is introduced as a skillful brawler and the former best Bakugan player before falling to Masquerade, and consistently proves his abilities throughout the series. Despite falling to 6th place off-screen, he built his way back up to 3rd by the finale of Bakugan Battle Brawlers. In New Vestroia, he has defeated all the Vexos, who are Vestal's strongest brawlers.
In Gundalian Invaders, he is second only to Dan in Bakugan Interspace, and though he falls to fourth place in Mechtanium Surge, it is due to all the time he spent training with Taylean. He later advanced to third, then reclaimed his top spot after defeating Anubias and Marucho, only to fall back to second after losing to Dan.

Trivia[edit]
- Between the original series and New Vestroia, Shun cut his hair. It began to grow out again in Mechtanium Surge.
- Shun is the second oldest out of the 6 by 1–2 years.
- Shun's age differs on older TV Tokyo sites, being listed as two years younger than his canonical age of 13.[3]
- Some early promotional material for New Vestroia depicts Shun's outfit in different colors.
- With the exception of Skyress, all of his Bakugan have some similarities affiliated with being ninja-like and lacking a mouth.
- Also with the exception of Taylean, Jaakor and Orbeum, most of his other Bakugan have similarities to birds.
- He shares some similarities with Shun Kurosaki (Shay Obsidian) from Yu-Gi-Oh! ARC V; the romanizations of their first names are the same, though the kanji for "Shun" are different. Both of them also have bird related monsters.
- Shun's Castle Knight uniform resembles Uryū Ishida's Quincy uniform from BLEACH's anime-only Bount Arc.
Etymology[edit]
Shun's last name, Kazami, means "Wind Watching". Similarly, his first name in Japanese, 駿 (shun), means "Speed". His whole name, transliterated from Japanese, means "Wind Sees Speed".
